All the meetings below are held at the Mytchett Community Centre (see directions).
2011/12 Programme
- 22nd September 2011 - guest speaker, James Tyler, will talk about British Hardwoods. James is from Tyler Hardwoods located near Hungerford.
- 27th October 2011 - another guest speaker, Nicholas Hobbs, who will talk about designing and making ecesiastical furniture. Nicholas' studio is based in Winksworth, Derbyshire.
- 24th November 2011 - Annual General Meeting followed by an open forum on blades and sharpening techniques led by James Burrows.
- 26th January 2012 - guest speaker, John Lloyd, subject to be confirmed.
- 23rd February 2012 - Member's Project evening - "Design" by Mick Clark, "Chair Making" by Brian Sadler and "Traditional Hardwood Doors" by James Buroows.
- 22 March 2012 - a Member's Project evening when the subject will be Dust Control. The speakers will be Colin Waters, Jim Hooker and James Burrows.
- 26 April 2012 - guest speaker - Michael Huntley talking about and demonstrating "Japanese saws and blades".
News of recent meetings
Talk by Richard Williams - designer maker.
Richard gave a facsinating illustrated talk about his initial inspiration to become a cabinet maker after seeing the work of James Krenov and Alan Peters. After college at High Wycombe he worked for Martin Grierson and then set up his own workshop in 1990. He has moved twice since those early days and now has a new workshop in a converted barn in Beaconsfield with plenty of room to expand his business. He is most well known for intricate free standing pieces of modern design but has now included fitted furniture in the product line of his workshop where he employes 10 craftsmen.
